When the edges at a corrugated box’s manufacturer’s joint fail to align, downstream erection and sealing can suffer. An October 16, 2026 report by Packaging South Asia describes Brohl Wellpappe’s use of Baumer hhs’s Easyfold waterscoring system. Its stated method applies narrow lines or dots of a folding liquid along the crease to influence folding. The name “water-scoring” alone does not identify the fluid’s precise formulation or residual amount.
What the field account says
Quoting a Brohl production manager, the article says fishtailing and dimensional deviation have been reduced on FEFCO 201 boxes. It reports particularly visible effects on E- and B-flute, especially in the direction of the fluting. It also describes limits with thick multi-layer board and very large formats, where stiffness matters. Operators reportedly switch the system on when a job benefits; this does not mean every grade and format is continuously treated.
The public article, however, gives no matched sample count, distribution of gap deviations in millimetres, defect or scrap rate, line speed, or fluid consumption before and after application. We are reporting attributed operator experience and supplier descriptions, not certifying a numerical improvement from independent measurements.

A comparison that would support adoption
A buyer or converting plant could separate E- and B-flute from thicker multi-wall constructions, then control for liner weights, carton design, fold orientation and line speed. Compare untreated and treated blanks from the same lot for both mean and upper-tail joint deviation, cracking or liner damage, erection rejects, and any cleaning or drying effect. Ambient humidity and storage time should also be recorded. This is our proposed trial design, not a test result published by either company.
Where glue or heat sealing follows, the fluid’s interaction with adhesion, printing and any relevant food-contact requirements deserves its own assessment. The public case account does not justify a universal claim that waterscoring reduces scrap for all corrugated boxes.
The practical news boundary
The newly dated item is an industry account of Brohl Wellpappe’s use of the process. It does not disclose transferable, independently measured gains by grade or box shape. Its useful starting point is to ask which score and format fail today, obtain the fluid specification, and measure actual dimensional and reject-rate changes under matched plant conditions before treating the method as qualified.
