Field problem
A November 1, 2026 field report said that fish sorting and automatic packing machines introduced at Busan Cooperative Fish Market have seen limited practical use. The packing machine places sorted fish into lined boxes to a specified weight. According to the report, the supplier proposed a maximum tolerance within 300 g, while examples of 2–3 kg differences were observed at the site. These are journalistic observations, not a published accredited test or a failure rate across all operating conditions.
Evidence to check
The report says the packer was introduced in March and trialled about ten times over seven months. It also reports that the sorter struggles with mixed fish species and that pay arrangements among the vessel operators, buyers and existing workforce remain unresolved. The market website carries a procurement notice for the fish packing machine, but its public title does not establish the detailed acceptance criteria or a pass/fail decision.

Practical deliverable
The purchasing team should first retrieve the contract’s definition of tolerance: absolute deviation from a target, or net weight after taring box and liner. Record species, size distribution, mixed-species share, feed rate, box format, fish count, sample size and calibration of the reference scale for each run. Keep the largest deviation and rework rate separate from the average. This is a reproducible record template, not a new numerical acceptance threshold.
| Check | Evidence | Owner and action |
|---|---|---|
| Weight tolerance | Contract specification and paired reference-scale readings | Purchasing and quality teams repeat under matched conditions |
| Mixed-species flow | Sorting and packing logs for real input mixes | Site team records exceptions |
| Operational acceptance | Minutes with vessels, buyers and workers | Operations team settles pay and rework responsibility |

Hold conditions
Do not infer an overall machine defect rate or a contractual breach from reported examples alone. Without the contract, method and raw measurements, defer an acceptance verdict. A technical pass would not by itself resolve workforce arrangements needed for routine use.
